Marvin Gaye is certainly one of the most remarkable singers and songwriters this country has ever produced, a towering talent whose influence on R&B, and popular melody in general, is immeasurable. He had several diverse, distinct periods of victory that stretched over a quarter-century, from the preliminary &#;60s until his tragic death in ; and each phase of his career is interesting for different reasons. With more than 50 charting R&B hits to choose from, we could be running Marvin Gaye “Classic Tracks” columns for the next few years, but for now we&#;ll choose his deliciously sensual masterpiece from , “Let&#;s Get It On.”

Marvin Gaye’s classic path “Let’s Get It On” now has an official music video. Directed by Monica Cordero and animated by Vania Chandrawidjaja and William Kusuma, the visual uses vibrant s psychedelia to Gaye’s sensual anthem to life. The video is out now via Motown/UMe.
In , Gaye released his 11th studio album, the self-produced What’s Going On. The socially-conscious notion album was a gigantic success and is considered a soul classic. He followed that record with the soundtrack album to the blaxploitation film Trouble Man. Gaye decided to follow in the footsteps of his label, Motown, and relocate from Detroit to Los Angeles. Released in August , Let’s Get It On explores the sexual and the spiritual. Gaye worked alongside producer Ed Townsend, who co-wrote several songs including the ballad “If I Should Die Tonight.”

I finally got the deluxe edition of Let's Receive It Onon CD and its imperfections (alternate vocal cuts, demos, instrumentals, etc) help to build the mystique around Let's Find It On. Not only that but you catch other artists' interpretation of Marvin's work:
The Miracles covering "Love You Secretly" (its working song was "My Last Chance"), the Monitors covering "Just to Retain You Satisfied" as adequately as the Originals' version, then you had Marvin interpreting Willie Hutch's four penned tunes very adequately. There was still a much of a social conscious even in the sexual interplay of the original LP.
Plus Marvin is probably at his pleasant vocally on this album I'm seriously about to start obsessing over the album now! :lol:
