TV has been instrumental in the LGBTQ+ rights movement and in changing attitudes towards the community. It has also, perhaps most importantly, been a platform to tell stories that have made gay, female homosexual, bisexual, trans, queer, intersex, and more people perceive less alone in the world – to understand there is a giant and varied community to which they belong. One pioneering show at a time, groundbreaking character by groundbreaking character, TV and streaming series have given the world an intuition into the LGBTQ+ life, and provided LGBTQ+ people with reflections of their own lives – stories to laugh along with, to cry with, and to identify with. When I glance around the TV landscape of recent years I feel quite happy that there are so many shows right now characterizing LGBTQIA+ people and issues, and that they are no longer just trivial storylines of side characters but theyve also turn into the center of attention. When I grew up the only show there was Queer As Folk and not much else in the decades after, so no matter if you liked it or not, it was a must-watch and highlight for gay guys at the time.
To see a fully gay show as the first thing on the main page of the ARD Mediathek (Germans major public TV channel) felt really good today, I have to say. I was half expecting they would hide it somewhere in the archive and you would have to search for it, but no, its pretty in your face. Correct me if Im wrong, but I think All You Need really is the first German TV reveal exclusively dealing with same-sex attracted men as the main characters and getting such a prime spot. Russell T Davies to deliver new LGBT drama to TV
Davies, 61, initially gained recognition for his Channel 4 series Queer As Folk, which first aired in
In , he told BBC Wales he wanted to write a darker LGBTQ+ drama as he felt there was "a lot of hatred in the air".
"A lot of nonsense in the air, a lot of rhetoric, and a lot of hate-makers stoking up the fires, and I have things to state about that, so I'd be surprised if I don't say something about that," he said.
Nicola Shindler, executive producer of Clue Toe, said: "I am so pleased to be back working with Russell and to be given the chance to explain such an important story."
She added it was "not just a timely drama, but a captivating story" which showcased "Russell's brilliant wit, warmth and devastating poignancy".
Casting for the present will be announced in due course.
The series will be produced by Quay Street Productions, which is part of ITV Studios, with Shindler, Davies and Peter Hoar as executive producers.
Well my friends, it is June, which means its time for networks to prove how much they care about us through creating new LGBTQ+ programming, and I dont signify just creating a Voices of Pride section on their primary interface that houses all the Gay movies in their catalog as well as television they made and cancelled in the past.
Most importantly is that there will be a new season of The Ultimatum: Gender non-conforming Love, and that will make everything else okay! Furthermore, I am recapping And Just Like That so if you adore witty captions, be sure to check that out.
