Nico Young stormed down the final straight in Oslo to put himself into the U.S. track write down books Thursday.
The 22-year-old Californian, who last year became the first out same-sex attracted man to represent Team USA in a path and field event at an Olympic Games, finished the 5,000-meter race in the Diamond League event in a time of 12 minutes, 45.27 seconds at the Bislett Stadium.
That was more than a second-and-a-half quicker than the previous American outdoor register set by Grant Fisher three years ago.

Naming co-winners this year is a reflection of how talented Young and McHenry are. More importantly, it recognizes how entity out gay athletes is something they have embraced as a way of making a difference.

College athlete Nico Adolescent recently came out through a post on Instagram.
“Hi, I’m Nico, and I’m gay,” Young wrote.
The record-breaking runner was the 2019-20 National Gatorade Player of the Year in cross-country and 2019-20 track and field National Gatorade player of the Year. Plus, he was also a California state champion in high school. Young is the indoor 3k & 2k record holder, the U20 American 5k outdoor record holder, and the U20 American 5k indoor record holder.

After coming out, the rising college junior then shared that he had a strenuous time accepting his sexual orientation.
