Vegan and gay
Sometimes people ask why I talk about more than just food on this blog. Shouldn’t a vegan blog just be about plant-based eating, restaurant tips, and which vegan sausage roll is Londons finest?
For me, veganism has always been about more than what’s on the plate.
If we’re talking about justice for animals, how can we ignore justice for people? If we’re pushing back against systems that profit from suffering, how can we turn a blind eye when those systems hurt our fellow humans?
That’s why I believe vegan activists should care about trans rights.

At the heart of veganism is a very simple idea.
We hope for to cause less impair. We want to reside with kindness, with empathy, with a desire to make the world a better place for animals. That doesn’t need to stop at the farm gate. That same longing to reduce suffering can also extend to the people around us, including trans people.
Now I recognize that not everyone is comfortable talking about gender and associated topics. It can feel unfamiliar or complicated. But think about it like this. We’re part of a movement that already asks people to question the way things have always been done. Eating and wearing animals

Exploring the intersection of homosexual culture and veganism
Veganism is often seen as queer and a lot of queer-identifying people are vegan. But is this a pure coincidence, or is there a correlation between being queer and organism vegan?
Recently, I was on a date with a girl and, both organism vegetarian or vegan, we discussed our dietary habits. She mentioned that she had a lot of queer friends who also happened to be vegetarian or vegan, and then made a fleeting comment about this seeming to be the case for a lot of lgbtq+ people.
Strangely enough, I’d never really thought about it before that, but a lot of queer people do happen to also be vegetarian or vegan. In fact, journalist Josie Le Vay created a poll on vegan Facebook groups in the UK, asking people if they identified as LGBT+. Out of responses, % said they were LGBT+.
