Sarah McLachlan: I've made out with women but I'm pretty straight

Grammy Award-winning singer Sarah McLachlan sets the register straight about her sexuality.

In an interview with Michigan gay weekly Pride Provider, the 46-year-old McLachlan was asked when she became aware of her large gay following.

"Probably Boston 1991," McLachlan answered. "It was with my second document [Solace] and I recall going to do a gig in Boston. I hung out with a lot of women after the show and, uhh, there was one bartender in particular who was really hot!"

"She was a good kisser – that's all I'm gonna say!"

McLachlan was asked in a follow up question her thoughts on the public's interest in her sexuality.

"People are always interested in how people bend. I've never shied away from it. I mean, I'm pretty straight. Let me just put it this way: I've never had sex with a lady. I've made out with more than one girl, but it just sort of happened. And there may have been alcohol involved with one of them."

"But yeah, I'm adorable much straight. But at the same time I am such a strong advocate for gay and queer woman rights because I truly believe that we are all equal. We should be able t

While promoting Shine On, her first album in four years — which brings her to the Winspear Opera House on Sunday — Sarah McLachlan breaks her silence in a recent interview with our Chris Azzopardi.

Dallas Voice: At what point in your career did you know you had a big lgbtq+ following?  Sarah MacLachlan: Hmm … probably Boston 1991.

That’s very specific.  I’m serious. Maybe 1992. It was with my second record [Solace] and I recollect going to do a gig in Boston. I hung out with a lot of women after the show and there was one bartender in particular who was really hot! And I’m not gonna say anything else, but yeah.

Wait, no, no. You can’t just leave me hanging prefer that.  She was a good kisser  — that’s all I’m gonna say! That was my first sort of foray. It didn’t go past that, but that was, mmm, yeah.

I just think of there being a lot of women holding hands in the audience — and not only that, but it was a really intelligent audience. I don’t even know how I could tell that, but I just retain this feeling of, wow, this is just a great, great audience. I wish I could utter why, but anyway, that was sort of the beginning of it a

Inaconversation with HuffPost Live on Monday about her brand-new album "Shine On," songstress Sarah McLachlan commented on her sexuality.

"I don't believe we get to choose who we tumble in love with," McLachlan told HuffPost Live's Caitlyn Becker. "I never declare never about anything because you just don't recognize. I love people. I love human beings, and there are a lot of women I've loved. I haven't necessarily loved them sexually. I angle to men most definitely. That being said, you never know."

McLachlan's sexuality was brought to the spotlight when she told PrideSouce, a Michigan-based LGBT news source, that she's locked lips with women before. Watch the full HuffPost Live interview with Sarah McLachlan below:
