Manchester has a thriving LGBTQ+ scene, centred around the world famous Canal Street home of The Village . A beacon of celebration in the city, the Gay Village is a must for any visitor to Manchester.
Located just south of Chinatown, the village is not only a thriving hub for nightlife, but living proof that Manchester is one of the worlds leading gay-friendly cities.
With a combination of bars, clubs, restaurants and green spaces set alongside a long stretch of the Rochdale Canal, Manchesters Gay Village has something to suit all tastes. The Village is also famous for hosting a number of regular annual events and special collective activities perhaps most prominent is Manchester Lgbtq+ fest. Standing as one of the biggest Pride events in the UK, Manchester Pride attracts a enormous number of visitors to the city each year.
Manchester also proudly hosts Sparkle, the national transgender celebration weekend in July, whilst the Great British Bear Bash sees the male lover village taken over by the larger, bearded, hairier chap over the May Bank Holiday weekend.

Bolton Seven
The Bolton Seven were a group of queer and bisexual men who were convicted on 12 January before Judge Michael Lever at Bolton Crown Court of the offences of gross indecency under the Sexual Offences Operate and of age of consent offences under the Criminal Justice and General Order Act Although queer sex had been partially decriminalised by the Sexual Offences Act , they were all convicted under section 13 of the Act because more than two men had sex together, which was still illegal. One of the participants (Craig Turner) was also six months under the statutory age of consent for gay sex which was 18 at the time.[1]
The offences only came to light after police seized videos of the men having sex, which they had filmed for their own personal use. All the men were either lovers, ex-boyfriends, or friends of friends.
Sentences
During sentencing on 20 February Gary Abdie, David Godfrey, Mark Love and Jonathan Moore (all of whom were in their early 20s), and Craig Turner (17 at the time of the offences but 18 when he appeared in court) were given probation and collective service orders.
