Oppression
Roma and Sinti were persecuted before, during and after the Holocaust.
Following the Nazi rise to influence, the persecution of all Roma in Germany increased and eventually became genocidal . Prior to the Second World War, approximately 30, Roma lived in Germany, and just under a million lived across Europe.
The Nazis believed Roma were ‘non-Aryan’ and an inferior race which had genetically inherited criminal qualities. This belief was reinforced by the research of the eugenic scientist Dr. Robert Ritter . As a result of Ritter’s research and their racist beliefs about Roma, the Nazis subjected many Roma to forced sterilisations to prevent them from having children.

Gays? No such thing in our country, says Malaysian Tourism Minister
KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysia's Tourism Minister caused consternation in Germany when he reportedly said there are no gays in Malaysia.
According to German broadcaster Deutsche Welle, Datuk Mohamaddin Ketapi - who was in the European land for the ITB Berlin travel fair - was asked by the German media whether Malaysia will welcome gays.
"I don't assess we have anything love that in our country," he said.
Deutsche Welle also claimed that Mr Mohamaddin had sidestepped a ask of whether Malaysia is a safe destination for homosexuals and Jews.
An aide to the minister later told news portal Malaysiakini that the statement was Mr Mohamaddin's personal views although it was in line with the Pakatan Harapan government's stance of not recognising LGBT culture.
Nevertheless, the aide, who wanted to remain anonymous, said: "Tourists coming to Malaysia like any other state are welcome regardless of their creed, sexuality, religion or colour."
Opposition Malaysian Chinese Association's (MCA) deputy president Mah Hang Soon said Mr Mohamaddin's remarks on homosexuality have made Malaysia a laughing stock, the Star news
Gays and Germans
Gays, lesbians and bisexuals still face discrimination in Germany, even though the country's General Regulation on Equal Treatment (AGG) prohibits it.
Christine Lüders, the head of Germany's Federal Anti-Discrimination Agency, commissioned a study late last year to gauge the back for legal equality for homosexual marriage.
Of those surveyed, 83 percent spoke out in favor of same-sex marriage and 95 percent believed it was a good thing that gays and lesbians are legally protected from discrimination.

Legal partnerships: 'Second-class marriage'
Germany's same-sex couples may come in into a "registered animation partnership", also known as "homo marriage", which Lüders described as a "second-class marriage." Germany lags behind other countries in Europe and the rest of the world when it comes to same-sex marriage. "I think it would be good for politicians to be as open-minded as the majority of the population with regard to marriage for all," said Lüders in an interview with DW.
A large part ( percent) of the approximately 2, people surveyed between October and November also said they were in favor of allowing same-se
During the nineteenth century, the first gay liberation thinkers laid the groundwork for a militant movement that demanded the end of the criminalization, pathologisation and social rejection of non-heterosexual sexuality. Nearly three decades later, the German jurist Karl-Heinrich Ulrichs () wrote twelve volumes between and as part of his “Research on the Mystery of Love Between Men” (“Forschungen über das Räthsel der mannmännlichen Liebe”). He also circulated a manifesto to create a federation of Uranians (), a term which designated men who loved men. He was engaged in the struggle to repeal § of the German penal code, which condemned “unnatural relations between men,” and in publicly declared he was a Uranist during a congress of German jurists. He died in exile in Italy before the birth of the liberation movement which he had called for.
